    1. Nc4 Qd7; 2. Bg4 Bf7; 3. Re1 Nce7; 4. Nxe6 Bxe6; 5. Nxe6 Nxe6; 6. Qxd7+ Kxd7; 8. Rad1+ wins the knight. If 4. … Nxe6; 5. Qxd7+ wins again the knight. If 4. … Qxd1; 5. Nxc7+. Not 4. Bxe6 Nxe6; when Black survives. White wins a piece by similar means after 3. … Nf4. Not 2. … Nce7; 3. Nxe6 wins a piece immediately. Black’s position is poor after 2. … f5; 3. Nxf5. Black’s best chance is to give up his queen after 5. … Qxe6; 6. Rxe6 Nxe6; but his position remains difficult after 7. Qg4. White can also seek to develop his initiative by 1. Nc4 Qd7; 2. Nxe6 Qxe6; 3. Bg4, e.g. 3. … Qf7; 4. Re1 e5; 5. Bxe5 fxe5; 6. Nxe5. However, sturdier is 3. … Qg8; 4. Re1 Rd8. Better seems 4. Qe2 Rd8; 5. Na5.
